Product description
MapOutcomes is an accreditation management platform for post-secondary programs (engineering, nursing, pharmacy, allied health and AI governance). This report covers the public website (mapoutcomes.com and its discipline sites: home, pricing, blog, legal and accessibility pages) and the signed-in platform (workspaces, data grids, mapping editors, dialogs, reports and settings).
Evaluation methods
- Automated: axe-core scans of 66 public and platform pages (no violations at the time of this report), an automated colour-contrast test, and Playwright keyboard tests.
- Manual keyboard testing of every interactive pattern: navigation, tabs and menus, data grids, dialogs and forms.
- Manual screen-reader testing with NVDA on Windows in Chrome and in Firefox, October 28, 2026 (19-step script covering navigation, data grids, mapping editors, tabs, dialogs, status messages, public pages and 200% zoom).
- Not yet performed: testing with JAWS or VoiceOver, and user testing with people with disabilities.
Conformance terms
Conformance terms
| Term | Meaning |
| Supports | The functionality meets the criterion without known defects. |
| Partially Supports | Some functionality does not meet the criterion. |
| Does Not Support | Most functionality does not meet the criterion. |
| Not Applicable | The criterion is not relevant to the product. |
WCAG 2.1: Perceivable
WCAG 2.1 Perceivable criteria
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
| 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A) | Supports | Informative images have descriptive alternative text. Inline SVGs use role="img" with an accessible name; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology. Icon buttons have text labels. Checked with NVDA on the Pricing and Accessibility Statement pages. |
| 1.2.1–1.2.5 Time-based Media (Level A and AA) | Not Applicable | The product contains no audio or video content. |
| 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A) | Partially Supports | Headings follow a logical hierarchy, every page has a main landmark, form fields have labels, and simple tables use th with scope. The platform's data grids expose grid, row, column header and row header roles. In NVDA with Firefox, the platform's data grids (spreadsheet views) are announced without their column and row headers, because Firefox does not support grids whose cells are assembled with aria-owns. They work with NVDA in Chrome. A rebuild of the grid as a single table is planned. |
| 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence (Level A) | Supports | Content reads in a logical order in the DOM; no visual reordering conflicts with it. |
| 1.3.3 Sensory Characteristics (Level A) | Supports | Instructions do not rely on shape, size, position or sound alone. |
| 1.3.4 Orientation (Level AA) | Supports | Content works in portrait and landscape; orientation is not locked. |
| 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose (Level AA) | Supports | Personal-data fields use autocomplete attributes (name, email, password, organization). |
| 1.4.1 Use of Color (Level A) | Supports | Colour is never the only way information is shown; status badges carry text. |
| 1.4.2 Audio Control (Level A) | Not Applicable | No audio plays automatically. |
| 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (Level AA) | Supports | Text meets 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text), re-measured October 23, 2026 and checked by an automated contrast test. The gold "Map" in the MapOutcomes wordmark is part of a logotype, which WCAG exempts from this criterion. |
| 1.4.4 Resize Text (Level AA) | Supports | Text resizes to 200% without loss of content or function (checked October 28, 2026 on the user list and the mapping editor). |
| 1.4.5 Images of Text (Level AA) | Supports | Text is real text, not images of text (logotype excepted). |
| 1.4.10 Reflow (Level AA) | Supports | Content reflows at 320 CSS pixels without two-direction scrolling. Data grids scroll in two directions, which WCAG allows for data tables. |
| 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast (Level AA) | Supports | Form controls, buttons and focus indicators meet 3:1. |
| 1.4.12 Text Spacing (Level AA) | Supports | Content stays usable with increased line, letter, word and paragraph spacing. |
| 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus (Level AA) | Not Applicable | No content appears only on hover or focus. |
WCAG 2.1: Operable
WCAG 2.1 Operable criteria
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
| 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A) | Supports | All functions work from the keyboard. Data grids are one Tab stop with arrow-key movement between rows or cells; tab lists use arrow keys, including the "More" overflow menu; Enter and Space activate, Escape closes dialogs. |
| 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap (Level A) | Supports | Focus can always leave a component. Dialogs keep focus inside while open and return it to the control that opened them on close. |
| 2.1.4 Character Key Shortcuts (Level A) | Not Applicable | There are no single-character keyboard shortcuts. |
| 2.2.1 Timing Adjustable (Level A) | Supports | For security, a signed-in session ends after about 24 minutes without activity. Four minutes before that, a dialog asks whether you are still there; one button keeps you signed in. Typing or clicking on the page also keeps the session alive. There are no other time limits. |
| 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide (Level A) | Supports | There is no moving, blinking or scrolling content. The only thing that updates by itself is the unread-notification count in the header, a single number checked once a minute. |
| 2.3.1 Three Flashes or Below Threshold (Level A) | Supports | No content flashes more than three times a second. |
| 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A) | Supports | A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page. |
| 2.4.2 Page Titled (Level A) | Supports | Every page has a descriptive title. |
| 2.4.3 Focus Order (Level A) | Supports | Focus order follows the reading order. Opening a dialog moves focus into it; the page behind it is made inert. |
| 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) (Level A) | Supports | Link text describes its destination (checked with the NVDA links list on public pages). |
| 2.4.5 Multiple Ways (Level AA) | Supports | Pages can be reached from the workspace menus and from a Site Map listing every page the signed-in account can open. |
| 2.4.6 Headings and Labels (Level AA) | Supports | Headings and labels describe their content and purpose. |
| 2.4.7 Focus Visible (Level AA) | Partially Supports | Browser focus indicators are kept on the public site, and the skip link, footer links, data grids and tabs have explicit focus outlines. Some platform components may still lack a clearly visible indicator; an audit is in progress. |
WCAG 2.1: Understandable
WCAG 2.1 Understandable criteria
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
| 3.1.1 Language of Page (Level A) | Supports | Every page declares lang="en". |
| 3.1.2 Language of Parts (Level AA) | Not Applicable | There is no content in other languages. |
| 3.2.1 On Focus (Level A) | Supports | Focusing an element never changes the context. |
| 3.2.2 On Input (Level A) | Supports | Changing a field never changes the context unexpectedly; forms are submitted with a labelled button. |
| 3.2.3 Consistent Navigation (Level AA) | Supports | Navigation appears in the same place and order on every page. |
| 3.2.4 Consistent Identification (Level AA) | Supports | Components with the same function are labelled the same way throughout. |
| 3.3.1 Error Identification (Level A) | Supports | Errors are described in text, and the message shown after a save (including errors) is announced by screen readers. |
| 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (Level A) | Supports | Every field has a visible label; complex forms include instructions. |
| 3.3.3 Error Suggestion (Level AA) | Supports | Error messages say what is missing or wrong (for example, "The typed address is not a valid email address."). |
| 3.3.4 Error Prevention (Legal, Financial, Data) (Level AA) | Supports | Adding programs to a subscription shows a preview of the cost before you confirm. Payments go through a review step. Renewal choices can be changed until the renewal date. Destructive actions ask for confirmation. |
WCAG 2.1: Robust
WCAG 2.1 Robust criteria
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
| 4.1.1 Parsing (Level A) | Supports | Markup is well formed. (WCAG 2.2 treats this criterion as always satisfied for HTML.) |
| 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (Level A) | Supports | Controls have accessible names and roles. Dialogs are named from their title; tabs, menus and grids use the matching ARIA roles and states. Checked with NVDA in Chrome and Firefox; see 1.3.1 for the Firefox grid-header limitation. |
| 4.1.3 Status Messages (Level AA) | Partially Supports | Save results, errors and demo-mode notices are announced by screen readers, including those shown after the page reloads. Some content that updates in place without a reload (for example, filtering in a few platform views) is not yet announced. |
Known limitations and planned fixes
Known limitations
| Criteria | Limitation | Plan |
| 1.3.1, 4.1.2 | Data grids are announced without their headers in NVDA with Firefox (they work in Chrome). | Rebuild the grid as a single table; planned. |
| 2.4.7 | Some platform components may lack a clearly visible focus indicator. | Focus-indicator audit of platform components. |
| 4.1.3 | Some in-place updates are not announced to screen readers. | Add live regions to the remaining in-place updates. |
Users who need help with any of these can contact [email protected]. See also our Accessibility Statement.
